Welcome to Scott Phinney's New Blog.

Portland native Scott McDonald has spent the last several years living in Australia, developing a company to bring back the days of the milkman, where milk was delivered a few times a week directly to the doorstep of the customer.  His company eventually grew to have over three hundred thousand customers.  Now, according to an article recently completed by The Oregonian, McDonald has returned home to start the process all over once again.
Based in the Brooklyn neighborhood, Local Farmers Delivery started operations on the tenth of March, delivering milk twice weekly to the doorsteps of its customers.  Thus far, customers have been thrilled with the service, saying that it has a sense of the romantic to it—a sense of throwing back to times long gone.  Due to their excellent service and unique operations, the company has now grown to have two hundred and twelve customers; McDonald hopes to build his list of clients to six hundred by August, with an eventual goal of franchising to be completed by next summer.
After succeeding in a foreign country, McDonald saw no reason as to why he couldn’t bring the same services successfully back to his home town.  He says the success of his business relies heavily on their delivery service, which allows Local Farmers Delivery to skip certain charges, such as price of shipping, rent for store space or paying wages to an immensely large staff; this cut in costs allows the company to execute their delivery of the same product at or below retail pricing typically seen in grocery stores.

Currently, Local Farmers Delivery works in cooperation with several suppliers; the company distributes products from Alpenrose Dairy, Franz Family Bakery and Portland Roasting Company.  In the near future, McDonald hopes to add Pacific Foods almond milk and an additional option of a fruit box to his orders.
